Fact Monster is a popular website produced and delivered by "Information Please", part of Family Education Network. Information Please began as a radio show in the 1930's and through time incorporated a print reference almanac, which is still in publication today by TIME magazine. Although Fact Monster appears to be an ad supported website, in reviewing their instructions to potential advertisers it appears that users, who are predominately students, will likely not be exposed to objectionable images/ads.
Fact Monster Almanac could be used by K-12 students as a site to browse for entertainment and/or for research. In addition to the initial menu as shown above, the almanac has a search feature. This allows students to receive returns from the entire Fact Monster site and identifies which reference section the returns came from. For example, if a student is doing a research report on the Battle of Lexington, the following screen demonstrates the returns when Lexington is the key search word.
